How to use this portal
On arriving ath the front page you will immediately see the news / views / reviews sections. But the more important part of this portal is inside "HPC books".
Sections
We have 4 categories
* News - information about clusters and hpc from international and local news agencies, as well as from members of the portal
* Views - commentaries and opinion pieces
* Reviews - Looking at hardware and software
* Industry - press releases and derivative news
and 5 sections
* Software - News / Views / Reviews and Industry info about clustering and numerical software, tools and operation systems.
* Hardware - News / Views / Reviews and Industry info about clustering and HPC hardware.
* Courses - university and corporate courses.
* books - These are aggregations of contributions around specific general areas, like MPI, Schedulers, etc.
* forums - online chat forum
* Top 100 - contributions to SA's first Top 100.
Navigation
* The front page contains general news - more technical stuff sits in books.
* The easiest way to find miscellaneous information is to search for it using the search dialogue on the right. (We look at the search-logs and we add information if popular searches fail.)
* Also at the top are sections "Industry", "News", "Reviews" and "Views". The idea is that contributors select a section when they make their submission.
* If you do not find information or think it incorrect you will need to register to add info to the portal. You will find a lot of the information is work in progress - do not be afraid to start such projects (they are called books in Drupal parlance). The idea is to complete these books as things become clearer to you, and for others to collaborate.
* There are also forums for discussion - only editors can create forums - this is where you can pose a specific question. If you would like a forum mail us.
* We will be running polls - anyone can vote.
* Our intention is to start a SA Top 100 clusters, probably around the hpcc package.
You might ask why bother because "blogs are not for professionals". This is not the case - most big companies use this kind of blog to communicate within the company and with clients.
* RSS - http://www.compute.org.za/rss.xml. This url will work, but since we are still feeling our way through copyright issues we are not advertising this. See the Digital Freedom Expo for some of the gnarly issues.
